Untitled(multiples) (2007)

Running Time: 1 minute 55 seconds

Untitled(multiples) is a short video that layers together over a half-dozen clips of me walking and standing in front of an empty grey and white wall. Beginning with one instance of me walking into view, the video gradually grows more complex and chaotic as multiple instances moving at different frame rates fill the screen at the same time.

Conceptually, the video originally began as a means for me to figuratively visualize the rhythm and repetitiveness of life under a typical routine of work or school. As the project developed deeper, however, it occurred to me that I was also exploring my own inner experience of processing life by repeating things in my mind over, and over, and over again. I feel fine letting the video stand for both ideas.

The compositing for Untitled(multiples) was completed using subtractive mapping techniques inside Final Cut Pro. The ambient audio track was stitched together and overlaid with the video also using Final Cut Pro.
